How disappointing ! I mean, not that she lost the challenge but she posed for the Telegraph. I had idealised her and now, all that I'll remember are horsish dentures. Love at first sight is so volatile.

Has Leolaia moved to Oxford, England ?
by aligot ripounsous incan't help being impressed by similar profiles of our leolaia and that young british student, gail trimble, who won the university challenge on bbc 4: they both are linguistic scholars in latin and greek and, yes, they even look alike, imo.

maybe later this year. Might be a good outlet for my writing. Especially if this board continues to focus more and more on politics and other non-religious stuff.
By all means, Leolaia, stay on JWD, That won't keep you from setting up your own blog, you add meat on the bone of a site which has already lost too many sustancial posters.

Hopefully she will become a scholar whose work I will get to read in the literature in the coming years.
So far the best thing we are sure of is that she will crush any contender standing in her way at Trivial Pursuit. Let's see now how articulate her thinking is which, honestly, we have no real reason to doubt about. Nice girl.

By now, Leolaia, you have gotten all the information thanks to our British JWD friends. I've known about Gail Trimble only through English e-papers, no more. By the way, this young Gail has a terrific word flow on the BBC interview video, her synapses are obviously quite well irrigated. Makes me feel so clumsy, let alone in English.

How Many Here Had To Go Into "The Backroom"?
by minimus inwere you ever called into "the backroom"?
why??
?.
-
aligot ripounsous
About three months ago, after the WT meeting, an elder said to me that he wanted us to have a chat in the backroom, because I was decidedly too much of a stumbling block in my comments. I told him I was ready to talk but didn't see any reason to go in the backroom as if I were a sinner. Instead, I asked a wider minded elder to join in the conversation in the hall, so that everybody could hear us and I made sure that I was speaking loud enough. The conversation actually took place exclusively between that second elder and me, the fisrt one felt he was 'de trop' and slipped away. Came back to my place on a sheperding call 2 weeks ago with the same elder but that's another story.

Is it possible that we are ruining the earth?
by Bubblie insaw robert f. kennedy, jr. give a lecture on "it's not easy being green" and "crimes against nature" last night at utc.
he really knows his stuff about what is going on with the environment.
he talked about how the coal mining in west virginia has torn down large mountains because they dump the rocks and soil into the rivers then the mountains are gone.

Wouldn't you think Jehovah would be very oppressive...especially if he allowed the likes of Watchtower bullies to run the show?
Cameo,
I know all too well that this organization is oppressive and the last thing I want is living eternally under its rule, 30 years have been enough for me, thanks. The fact that they claim to represent Jehovah doesn't mean it's true. Now, in true JW way, I think that since Jehovah created a beautiful earth for mankind to live upon, He can't be oppressive but we can do little more than wait and see what He will do. I said I've hope, that doesn't imply having answers to so many question marks.

Well, I'm quite convinced (30 years JWism ?) that men will simply never be able to make it as far as managing resources of the earth in responsible and equitable ways is concerned, because the rich want to remain rich and the poor think that they have a right to drive 4WD too. Amazonian forest is reported to have shrunk by 17% between 2000 and 2005 and who is acting in a practical way to prevent it ? American troops swept through Iraq for less than that. And if a planetary authority were set up to rein in greediness, it would soon become oppressive. That's why I keep hoping that Jehovah will step in, but how and when, if ever ?

In some ways, American English is more like the English of Shakespeare than modern British English is.
They say the same with the way Quebekers pronounce French, which would be close to 16th to 18th century historic language.
